The Project on Global and Domestic Health Equity and Policy at the University of Pennsylvania has two openings for postdoctoral research fellows for one year, renewable, full-time appointments, beginning January 1, 2019 or thereafter. Postdoctoral fellows will work with a team lead by Professor Jennifer Prah Ruger, Amartya Sen Professor of Health Equity, Policy and Economics. The project is concerned with theoretical and empirical research on equity, policy and law in global and domestic health and a range of topics including studies on political economy of health and health systems; health policies and economics of financing, organization and access; health impact assessment; health inequality; norms, incentives and choice architecture in global and domestic health policy and law; social, economic, political, and legal environments that shape global and domestic health and health policy; and justice and governance in health. The scope of research is both domestic and global. Strong research skills in design and implementation of original surveys, data collection and management, data analysis and other aspects of quantitative research, qualitative research, writing, reviewing, and editing manuscripts for publication, and theoretical scholarship, are highly desirable, as is a background in the social sciences. An administrative portfolio for the position consists of organizing seminars, workshops and/or conferences and grant writing and submission. Excellent motivation and work ethic and research, organizational, analytical, writing, communication and interpersonal skills, experience using databases and statistical software, and coursework in theory and methods in one or more of the social sciences are important. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required.

The Program Coordinator for SP2 Global Studies manages a range of activities, including implementing programs and initiatives; interacts and liaises effectively with faculty, staff, alumni, vendors and outside guests; develops, updates and follows standard operating procedures and protocols for the SP2 Global Studies office and programs; and plans, implements and debriefs events. The Program Coordinator prioritizes a large number of projects with multiple partners, meeting deadlines; researches global ideas and options, designs and implements programming to advance SP2 global work; plans, administers and coordinates all functions providing administrative support to the Associate Dean for Global Studies and the Global Engagement Committee, responding to and evaluating opportunities, designing innovative programming, developing strong management systems, protocols and building positive working relationships with colleagues and faculty.
Day-to-day activities include autonomously and in team-based environment providing executive and administrative support to SP2 Global Studies programs and initiatives and general executive and administrative support for Associate Dean of Global Studies and Global Engagement Committee. Establish and maintain critical office systems and protocols including document management system and other systems required to improve efficiency, information sharing, and shared learning in promoting work of SP2 Global Studies. Conducting prospect research; answering questions/inquiries; drafting and disseminating routine correspondence, typing and proofreading standard and complex or confidential material; events, data, materials and file management; scheduling and staffing multi-faceted meetings, and conferences on-campus and/or out-of-town; coordinating logistics, arranging travel, transportation, and lodging as needed; collecting and organizing information for meetings and/or reports; serving as project manager, enforcing timelines, project standards and the quality of deliverables, coordinating faculty, students and staff.
